The 300 was introduced as a high-performance luxury coupe in 1955, and progressive alphabetical suffixes were added for each subsequent model year through 1965. Black was one of three colors offered from the factory, and this example was repainted under current ownership. Equipment includes chrome bumpers and trim, a split front grille, dual side mirrors, and tail fins.
Red-painted 15” steel wheels wear bright covers and are mounted with 235/75 American Classic whitewall tires. The power-assisted braking system has been converted to utilize front discs and an electric push-button emergency brake. The shocks have been replaced.
The cabin features a power-adjustable split front bench seat and a rear bench trimmed in black leather with contrast stitching along with color-coordinated door panels and carpeting. An inoperative Town & Country push-button radio remains in the factory location, while a custom center console houses a concealed Alpine AM/FM/CD stereo as well as a Powertrain Control Solutions electronic gear selector. Additional appointments include power windows, an Alcantara headliner and sun visors, and a Classic Auto Air trunk-mounted air-conditioning system with dual condensers.
The two-spoke steering wheel has a chrome horn ring and frames a 150-mph speedometer and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 16k miles, approximately 10k of which have been added under current ownership. The odometer is said to have rolled over, and true mileage is unknown.
The 354ci V8 features dual Carter four-barrel carburetors and a gold-finished “batwing” air-cleaner housing. A 12-volt electrical system with an alternator replacing the generator has been fitted along with a gear-reduction starter.
