The car was repainted during the refurbishment in 2003 in Venetian Red paint with Shoreline Beige painted coves. Exterior equipment includes a white convertible soft top, a removable body-color hardtop, a wrap-around windshield, split chrome bumpers, and dual exhaust outlets that exit through the rear bumper uprights. The 15″ steel wheels wear covers with faux knock-off spinners and are mounted with Autopar tires. The car came equipped from the factory with an independent front suspension and semi-elliptical rear leaf springs. Braking is handled by drums at each corner.
The cabin features twin bucket seats that were reupholstered in the 2003 refurbishment and are trimmed in red vinyl joined by a color-coordinated dashboard, carpets, and door panels. Equipment includes seat belts, a heater, an AM radio, a floor-mounted shifter, a clock, polished sill plates, and a dash-mounted rearview mirror.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer, and center-mounted instrumentation consists of a tachometer, an ammeter, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 82k miles. Total mileage is unknown. The seller reports the fuel level gauge and the clock do not work.
The 283ci V8 features Rochester Ramjet mechanical fuel injection, and the engine and fuel injection unit are said to have been overhauled during the refurbishment in 2003. Additional equipment includes an open-element air cleaner, a chrome ignition cover, and finned Corvette-script valve covers. The seller reports the battery was replaced in preparation for the sale.
The stamping on the engine pad is shown above. The EL suffix is consistent with a 283ci V8 rated at 283 horsepower and designated for a 1957 Corvette with fuel injection and a manual transmission.
Power is routed to the rear wheels via a three-speed manual transmission and a PosiTraction limited-slip differential.
