The body was stripped and the color is said to have been changed to British Racing Green during the aforementioned refurbishment. The car features a tan canvas soft top with plastic windows. Chrome-finished front and rear bumpers were installed along with halogen headlights.
The frame, transmission tunnel, and gray Dunlop-branded 15×4″ steel wheels were powdercoated during the refurbishment. The wheels utilize two-ear knock-offs and are mounted with 165-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires; a spare is located in the trunk. The four-wheel Dunlop disc braking system received replacement rotors and hydraulic lines. The suspension was overhauled with replated front components, a replacement front sway bar, and rebuilt rear springs.
Deluxe bucket seats were reupholstered in tan leather with vinyl backs, and they feature black lap belts that complement dark carpeting. The dashboard and door panels are trimmed to match the seats, and the loom for the wiring harness was replaced.
A 16.5″ mahogany-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of a Jaeger 120-mph speedometer, a 7,500-rpm tachometer, and a combination gauge, while a fuel-level gauge is positioned to the right-hand side of the dashboard. The instruments have been rebuilt, and the five-digit odometer shows approximately 150 miles, which is said to reflect the distance accumulated since completion of the refurbishment. True chassis mileage is unknown.
The snap-on canvas tonneau cover unzips in the middle to provide access to the cockpit.
The twin-cam 1.6L inline-four is equipped with twin dual-throat Weber carburetors as well as polished cylinder-head covers, a PerTronix electronic ignition, an electric fuel pump, a high-torque starter, an upgraded water pump, and a stainless-steel exhaust. The engine is said to have been rebuilt to an 8.3:1 compression ratio, and a spin-on oil-filter assembly has been installed along with a single 12-volt battery and a negative-ground generator.
Power is delivered to the wheels through a close-ratio four-speed manual gearbox and a solid rear axle with a 4.3:1 final-drive ratio. During the refurbishment the gearbox was rebuilt along with the driveshaft, which was balanced, and the clutch assembly was replaced.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate indicates the car’s body style, its original color scheme of Old English White over black, and a build date in June 1959. The car was a left-hand-drive export model with “disc wheels, heater, centigrade thermometer.”
A number of photos taken during the refurbishment are presented toward the end of the gallery below, which also contains handwritten refurbishment notes.
