The Silver Cloud II debuted at the 1959 Earls Court Motor Show, and the Drophead Coupe “Adaptations” were completed by coachbuilder H.J. Mulliner & Co., Ltd., which reworked standard saloon bodies into a two-door open configuration. This example was originally finished in Whitehall Grey, and a repaint in white is said to have been completed in 2019. Exterior elements include a replacement red power-operated convertible top and matching top boot, a Spirit of Ecstasy ornament, Lucas driving lights, dual side mirrors, vent windows, and bright-finished elements that include bumpers with overriders, a radiator grille, window surrounds, and trim. The wiring for the passenger-side front indicator was repaired in December 2022. A blemish is present on the rear bumper badging.
Steel 15″ wheels wear polished covers with body-color inserts and are mounted with 8.20-series Firestone-branded wide whitewall tires that were installed in 2017. Braking is handled by hydraulic drums on all four corners and braking and suspension work in 2016 included the replacement of the brake hoses, wheel cylinders, bump stops, and sway bar links as well as the refurbishment of the power steering pump, front dampers, and control arms and spindles. The brake fluid was flushed in 2021.
The cabin is trimmed in red leather and is equipped with a split front bench seat and a rear bench with color-coordinated door panels. Wilton carpets were installed in December 2019. Burl wood trim accents the dash, windshield surround, and doors, and additional appointments include air conditioning, electric front windows, fold-out rear picnic tables, and a push-button radio. The seller states that the rear-mounted air conditioning vents are not sufficient to cool the car.
A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a woodgrain dashboard that houses a reverse-sweep 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 7k miles, less than 500 of which have been added during current ownership. True mileage is unknown.
The 6.2-liter V8 is equipped with dual SU carburetors. The engine was overhauled during 2016-2017 service carried out by Automotive Restoration Inc., which included refurbishing the cylinder heads, performing a valve job, and replacing the valve springs, fuel pump, and water pump. The oil was changed, the carburetor was adjusted, and the oil pressure sender was replaced in December 2022.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic transmission. The underside was treated with a rust-converter coating in December 2019.
