Finished from the factory in Nero, the car received a replacement nose section and rust repair on the rocker panels and trunk lid by Joe Brusaschetti, of JB Custom Design, El Dorado, CA, followed by a bare-metal repaint in its current shade of red by Michael J’s of Almaden in San Jose, California around 23 years ago. The bumpers have been re-plated, and the black soft top was also replaced at that time. Dents above the passenger-side headlight are said to have been repaired in preparation for the sale by Farrell Creations and Restorations of Mooresville, North Carolina. Note that several photos in the gallery show the car without windshield wipers, though a pair have since been installed.
Replacement silver-finished 15” steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and are mounted with 165-width Michelin XZX tires. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes that are said to have been fitted with replacement cylinders in mid-2022. The seller notes that the rear tires intermittently rub the fenders when the car is carrying a heavy load.
The cabin was fitted with Dynamat sound deadening material, along with black carpeting and red vinyl bucket seats with black piping during the refurbishment. Additional details include a Motorola AM radio, a wood shift knob, and a dash-mounted rearview mirror. Various paint chips and imperfections are noted around the glovebox and inner driver’s door. The car is not fitted with seatbelts.
A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a body-color metal dashboard housing Veglia instrumentation that includes a 7k-rpm tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 68k miles, around 2k of which have been added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The replacement 1,750cc inline-four was reportedly sourced from a 1969 Alfa Romeo GTV located in Italy and installed during the refurbishment. The engine is equipped with dual Weber side-draft carburetors, as well as a custom exhaust system with a custom manifold and Magnaflow muffler. Work performed in 2009 by Silicon Valley Performance of Mountain View, California included re-coring the radiator and resurfacing the cylinder head. An oil leak was reportedly repaired in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a replacement five-speed manual transmission. The trunk floor and front floor pans were replaced during the refurbishment. Additional underside photos are provided in the gallery below.
Photos from various stages of the refurbishment can also be seen in the gallery.
