A successor to the Convertible D, the roadster model was introduced for the 1960 model year and was updated for its third and final year with T6 bodywork incorporating dual rear grilles. Prior to that transition, production was moved from Karosseriewerke Drauz in Germany to Belgian importer D’Ieteren.
Originally finished in Heron Grey (6207), the car was stripped and received bodywork before it was repainted black by Stoddard Imported Cars in 1982. Features include body-color bumpers with chrome overriders, a driver-side mirror, Speedster-style side spears, a black soft top, gold badging, and dual exhaust outlets exiting through the rear bumper.
Chrome 15″ ventilated steel wheels wear Porsche crest hubcaps and are mounted with 185/65 Yokohama Avid Ascend GT tires that were installed in July 2023, while a matching spare is stowed in the front trunk. Koni red shocks are fitted at all four corners, and the four-wheel finned drum brakes were adjusted in July 2023.
The bucket seats are trimmed in black upholstery along with a color-coordinated dash pad and door panels. Salt-and-pepper square-weave carpets cover the sills and rear shelf, while black rubber mats line the footwells. Additional features include lap belts, door pockets, a chrome passenger grab handle, roll-up windows, and a fire extinguisher mounted behind the passenger seat. A collection of racing plaques from events reportedly competed in by Monte Shelton are affixed to the painted steel dash, and they date from the 1960s to the 1980s.
The Nardi steering wheel wears a Porsche crest hub button and sits ahead of green-letter VDO instrumentation that includes a 6k-rpm tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and a combination gauge monitoring oil temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 78k miles, and total mileage is unknown.
The replacement Type 616/16 1.6-liter flat-four was reportedly sourced from a 356SC and is equipped with twin Solex carburetors and Knecht mesh air cleaners. The engine is said to have been rebuilt by marque specialist Dick Elverud under Monte Shelton’s ownership, and aftermarket 88mm pistons and cylinders were installed in 2006. Service in July 2023 involved adjusting the valves, changing the oil, and replacing the valve cover gaskets and fan belt. A leak-down test was performed at that time, and the results are mentioned on an invoice pictured in the gallery below.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transaxle. The car has been fitted with an aftermarket exhaust system, and service in June 2023 involved repairing an exhaust leak and replacing an exhaust manifold gasket.
