The wood-rimmed banjo-style steering wheel fronts a burl wood dash panel housing Jaeger instrumentation that includes a 5,500-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges. Work performed under current ownership included refurbishing the gauges, modifying the tachometer for use with electronic ignition, replacing the steering column and speedometer cable, and installing a Smiths quartz clock. The five-digit odometer shows 59k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 289ci V8 was overhauled in 2016 by McClain’s Automotive of Cuba, Missouri, and work involved resurfacing the cylinder heads, performing a valve job, replacing the oil pan, spark plug wires, and thermostat housing, and installing threaded head studs and roller lifters. A dyno test in 2016 indicated peak output of 288 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque, as shown in the gallery. The 3″ exhaust system has been ceramic coated, and additional equipment includes an Edelbrock high-rise intake manifold, a Holley four-barrel carburetor, a chrome air cleaner cover, braided oil lines, exhaust headers, and finned “Tiger Powered by Ford” valve covers. Service under current ownership reportedly involved refurbishing the radiator and replacing the coolant recovery tank. The oil was last changed in 2021.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential with 3.31:1 gearing, both of which are said to have been overhauled under previous ownership. Service under current ownership involved replacing the clutch master and slave cylinders.
The Sunbeam Tiger Owners Association certificate of authenticity was issued in June 2017 and lists the factory color code, engine number, JAL number, and chassis serial number.
