The 427ci L36 V8 was factory rated at 390 horsepower. A rebuild carried out by InterSport of Ashburn, Virginia, in April 2021, included machining the block and crankshaft, resurfacing the cylinder head, performing a valve job, and replacing the pistons, bearings, and seals. The engine stamping is shown above. The IL suffix corresponds with a 390-horsepower, 427ci V8 for use with a manual transmission.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and an optional Positraction limited-slip differential. The transmission fluid was changed in April 2021. Long-tube exhaust headers and a custom exhaust system are fitted.
