The Ghibli debuted at the 1966 Turin Motor Show featuring steel bodywork styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro during his time with Carrozzeria Ghia. This example is finished in red and is said to have undergone a refurbishment at some point under previous ownership. The Ghibli debuted at the 1966 Turin Motor Show featuring steel bodywork styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro during his time with Carrozzeria Ghia. This example is finished in red and is said to have undergone a refurbishment at some point under previous ownership. Design features include dual hood vents, a low-profile trunk lip, round-edge headlight covers, chromed rear bumper overriders, fender-mounted side mirrors, and round side indicator lights at the front and rear.
Campagnolo cast alloy wheels wear simulated knock-offs and are wrapped in 215/70VR15 Michelin X tires. Stopping is handled by servo-assisted ventilated disc brakes at each corner, and a fluid flush was performed in January 2023.
The cabin is trimmed in ivory-color leather over the seats, console, door panels, and lower dash, with contrasting black carpeting over the floors and rear cargo area. Features include black mousehair upper dash trim, headrests, black shoulder belts, branded floor mats, power windows, air conditioning, a Blaupunkt AM/FM stereo, and console-mounted Blaupunkt speakers. Loose door handle and steering wheel connections were corrected during a January 2023 service, which also included the installation of moisture barriers behind the door panels. An invoice from the service notes that the lighting is operated by a dash switch in lieu of the original stalk control.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel features a padded horn button and sits on a four-way adjustable column, the latter of which exhibits wear on its shroud. Veglia Borletti instrumentation includes a 200-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline, and an oil pressure gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 61k miles, approximately 150 of which have been added under current ownership. Instruments to the driver’s right include a clock, an ammeter, and gauges monitoring coolant temperature, oil temperature, and fuel level. The clock does not work.
The SS variant’s 4.9-liter V8 is a higher-displacement evolution of the standard Ghibli’s powerplant and was factory rated at 335 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 355 lb-ft of torque at 4k rpm. Features include an aluminum block, aluminum cylinder heads with dual overhead camshafts on each cylinder bank, dry-sump lubrication, and quadruple Weber 42 DCNF carburetors. Service performed in January 2023 included disassembly and cleaning of the carburetors, replacement of the valve cover gaskets, and an oil change.
Chassis number 2278 is shown stamped on the engine block above.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a ZF five-speed manual transmission. Suspension combines a coil-sprung double-wishbone front setup with a leaf-sprung solid rear axle and utilizes telescopic shock absorbers and anti-roll bars at each end.
