The Super Beetle was offered solely as a cabriolet during its final year on sale to the North American market in 1979. This example is finished in Alpine white and features a manually operated tan soft top with a heated glass rear window. Additional equipment includes bright impact bumpers and trim, running boards, dual side-view mirrors, a Karmann body tag affixed to the right fender, and a tan top boot.
Silver 15″ Lemmerz wheels are mounted with whitewall radial tires, and a spare is located in the front trunk. Standard features included four-wheel independent suspension as well as rack-and-pinion steering. Stopping power is provided by drums at all four corners. The selling dealer notes that the tires are in need of replacement.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in white vinyl along with color-coordinated door panels and a contrasting black dashboard and carpets. Details include a quartz analog clock, woodgrain dash trim, a locking glovebox, door storage pockets, and three-point front seatbelts.
The four-spoke steering wheel features a Wolfsburg-crest center cap and fronts an 85-mph speedometer with an inset fuel level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows just over 1k miles, a handful of which were added by the selling dealer.
The air-cooled 1.6L flat-four is equipped with fuel injection and was factory rated at 48 horsepower and 73 lb-ft of torque.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transaxle. Additional photos of the underside are provided in the gallery below.
The window sticker lists initial delivery to Volkswagen Mid-America, factory colors and equipment, and a total of $7,338. An owner’s manual, a service manual, a license plate frame, and a tool kit are included in the sale.
